New for May

Antony Hopkins

21 March 1921 – 6 May 2014

It is with great sadness that we record the passing of Antony Hopkins this month.

antony hopkins

Antony Hopkins CBE was an English composer, pianist, conductor, and radio broadcaster.

His works include the operas Lady Rohesia (1947) (based on the Ingoldsby Legends of sixteenth-century England), The Man from Tuscany, and Three's Company (1953); the ballet Café des Sports; and Scena for soprano and strings (which was later arranged for three solo voices and full orchestra).

Hopkins wrote extensively for films but he was perhaps best known for his books of musical analysis and, particularly, for his radio programmes Talking About Music broadcast for many years by the BBC.

London's Last Trams

London's last trams

listen and buy

Recorded on location throughout London this album brings back memories to the over sixties and will amaze younger generations that Londoners became so attached to their trams, especially during World War II when the sound of the first tram in a morning following an air raid was a sign that all was well.

Send offs included fanfares, hooters, searchlights, balloons, steamers and speeches, bands and singing.

In the eight stages trams were withdrawn from :-

New from iTunes

Many music lovers miss the sound from vinyl pressings. Many others have yet to discover how pleasant the sound can be. Most of our albums are mastered from vinyl LP pressings and earlier recordings (before 1953) from 78 rpm discs. It is our ability to recreate, in the digital age, the sound from the disc era that many of our customers find most enjoyable.

Unlike modern digital recordings tracks in our albums do contain some distortion, and the occasional surface noises, but for many listeners the noise is soon forgotten and the distortion can be comforting.
