Extra Tracks

Below are tracks from our library that never made it onto one of our compact discs. They can be downloaded here as high quality 320kbs AAC encoded (MP3) files. Those originating on 78rpm discs are raw and no attempt to clean up the surface noise had been made although we have removed some loud cracks and bangs. Please note the previews are compressed files so the sound is not as good as that on the whole track.

Purchasers of tracks have unlimted personal use but must not pass or sell on to third parties nor broadcast without prior permission from PPL

Ferenc Fricsay(1914-1963)

Fricsay was born in Budapest in 1914 and had a meteoric rise to fame, making his first appearance as a conductor at age 15. He became the first music director of the RIAS Symphony Orchestra in Germany in 1949 followed by musical directorship of the Houston Symphony in 1954. He spent much of his time from the 1950s onward in Germany where he recorded for Deutsche Grammophon. Fricsay gave his last concert on 7 December 1961 in London where he conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. He suffered from repeated illnesses throughout his life and finally succumbed to cancer on 20 February 1963 at the age of 48.
