BBC Wireless Military Band(1927 - 1943)
The BBC Wireless Military Band was formed in 1927 and palyed as a studio broadcasting band until 1943 under the direction of B. Walton O'Donnell. It was a fine band and attracted compositions from the best composers of band music, notably Gustav Holst. The band personnel were: Flute - Robert Murchie, Charles Stainer (also piccolo) : E-flat clarinet - R. A. Smith , A. R. Johnson: Oboe - J.R. Brand, J. Macarthy: Clarinet - A Tchaikov, Haydn Draper (leader), G. W. Anderson, R. L. Crosoer, Louis Booth, R. T. Chilton, A. R. Jenkins, A. Davis, C. Mangen : Alto saxophone - Walter Lear ; Tenor saxophone - C. S. McDonald : Bassoon - P. B. Draper, Gilbert Vinter : Horn - E. A. Chapman, W. E. Gill, A. Barnes, H. Hamilton : Cornet- Charles Leggett (leader), J. Malken, A.Amsden : Trombone - H. B. Ashley, R. O. Williams : Bass trombone - Percy Jones : Euphonium - Thomas Thorpe : Trumpet - H. Wild, H. Haman : Bass - Francis Ash, H.R. Smith, J. W. D. Constable : Percussion F. H. Kennings, R. G. Franklin.
