BBC Wireless Military Band(1927 - 1943)

The BBC Wireless Military Band was formed in 1927 and palyed as a studio broadcasting band until 1943 under the direction of B. Walton O'Donnell. It was a fine band and attracted compositions from the best composers of band music, notably Gustav Holst. Mangen : Alto saxophone - Walter Lear ; Tenor saxophone - C. S. McDonald : Bassoon - P. B. Draper, Gilbert Vinter : Horn - E. A. Chapman, W. E. Gill, A. Barnes, H. Hamilton : Cornet- Charles Leggett (leader), J. Malken, A.Amsden : Trombone - H. B. Ashley, R. O. Williams : Bass trombone - Percy Jones : Euphonium - Thomas Thorpe : Trumpet - H. Wild, H.
