The Golden Age of British Buses
Welcome to this site featuring photos of buses in Britain mainly in the 1960s and 70s (although there are photos dating back to post war 1940s and up to the present day).
This site expands each month so check on the first Monday (thats when we will revise this page).
The views expressed here are entirely personal and reflect my own life in transport planning, operations and local politics.

City of Oxford Motor Services
Having spent five years a a child living in the Chiltern Hills served by Thames Valley and City of Oxford Motor Services it was the latter I found more interesting with their fleet of AECs, always considered superior to Thames Valley Bristols. The complex COMS liverey was another distinctive feature when compared to Tilling group red for Thames Valley and green for United Counites. So Gloucester Green bus staion iin Oxford was Mecca for me, and it had one of the last surviving British Restaurants (they were set up during World War II to provide cheap wholesome meals) to feed the young enthusiaist. Amazingly through all the changes in bus companies over the last 25 years COMS continues to thrive trading as Oxford Bus. The company is part of the Go Ahead group. The modern red livery is an improvement on NBC red but still does not match the COMS liverey shown below.
